Specific Usage of Prepositions

AT

Specific places, concrete sites within an establishment, events, addresses when mentioning a number and street.

IN

Cities, towns, parts of a house, other expressions.

ON

Means of transport, surfaces, for addresses when only the street is mentioned, other expressions.

Prepositions of Time

  • AT (a, en, por): hours, holiday periods, certain times of the day, routine moments.
  • ON (en, el): dates, days of the week, parts of the day plus day of the week, specific celebrations.
  • IN (en, por, dentro de, durante): centuries, decades, years, months and seasons, parts of the day, duration of time.

Verb Tenses

Present Simple

Verb present (i, you, we, they - play) (he, she, it - plays). Negative: (Don't - i, you, we, they) (Doesn't - he, she, it). Question: (Do - i, you, they, we) (Does - he, she, it). Used for habits, routines, repeated actions, also states, actions that have permanent validity, and truths or facts. Keywords: (always, usually, often, sometimes, never, every, once, twice).

Present Continuous

Affirmative: am, is, are + verb + ing. Negative: am, is, are + not + verb + ing. Question: am, is, are + verb + ing. Used for an action happening at the moment, simultaneous actions taking place at the moment. Keywords: (now, right now, at the moment, listen, look).

Past Simple

Affirmative: verb in past. Negative: didn't + verb present. Question: did + verb present. Used for completed actions in the past, sequences of actions in the past.

Past Continuous

Affirmative: was/were + verb + ing. Negative: wasn't/weren't + verb + ing. Question: was/were + verb + ing. Used for actions that were happening at a specific moment in the past, actions taking place simultaneously, describing everything that was happening in the past.
