La Inmortalidad del Alma: El alma no solo sobrevive al cuerpo, sino que le preexiste en el mundo de las ideas antes de nacer. Esto se evidencia a través de diversas pruebas:

• Por la reminiscencia: Si conocer es recordar, y al nacer el alma ya conoce las ideas, debe haber estado en contacto con ellas antes de encarnarse en el cuerpo.
• Por no ser engendrada: Si el alma no es engendrada, no puede padecer.
• Por la justicia universal: El justo debe recibir su premio y el malo su castigo, algo que no siempre ocurre en el mundo sensible.

El Ascenso del Alma de lo Sensible a lo Inteligible: La tarea del ser humano es lograr el regreso del alma a su lugar natural, pero es necesario purificarse. Existen cuatro caminos para este ascenso:

• Amor: Deseo de regresar al mundo al que el alma pertenece.
• Dialéctica: El conocimiento lleva al alma de lo sensible a lo inteligible.
• Muerte: Mito de Er: Si el alma se ha purificado después de la reencarnación, vuelve al mundo de las ideas; de lo contrario, se reencarna en otro cuerpo hasta completar su purificación.
• La virtud como tipo de comportamiento acorde con la naturaleza.
